Racing Genk v Celta Vigo: Mat Ryan’s team crashes out despite earning second leg draw

SOCCEROOS goalkeeper Mat Ryan has suffered heartbreak in the Europa League with Genk eliminated from the quarter-finals after a 1-1 home draw with Celta Vigo.

The result gave the Spaniards a 4-3 win on aggregate after the first leg ended 3-2 in Vigo.

Once again Ryan was in fine form for the Belgian outfit but was not able to stop Pione Sisto’s all-important solo goal that proved decisive.

Holding only a narrow 3-2 lead from the home leg, Celta kept their opponents at bay with relative ease for more than an hour before Sisto fired them in front on the night with a thunderous strike from the edge of the area. Leandro Trossard quickly pulled one back to leave the Belgians needing only one more to take the overall lead on away goals, but the visitors stood firm to make the last four.
